"Mercedes is determined to undertake a mission under the Royal Orders. Look after her safety."

Quest Walkthrough
This quest is available after completing Trials and Tribulations and Griffin's Bane. Speak to Aldous and select the option for "Assist Ser Mercedes". The outcome of the fight will determine your reward so if you want the magic shield Julien carries, Wizard's Vizard bring a Wakestone to revive him after the duel.
Speak to Mercedes and she will leave for Windbluff Tower. Meet up with her then ignoring the soldiers fighting amongst themselves. Observe the duel and you can influence the outcome depending on how you want the quest to resolve. Letting the duel unfold without interfering lets Julien win and he will escape. You may claim the SIlver Rapier from Mercedes. If you intervene and damage Mercedes Julien wins.
If you interfere and kill Julien after Mercedes receives 3 blows, you will see a cutscene where Mercedes hands a Cutlass. Reviving Julien before the cutscene will allow you to then earn the shield.
Return to Aldous after the duel. Mercedes will be dejected regardless of the outcome and if revived Julien will turn himself in to the Duke's Demesne. You may speak to him in his cell to receive his shield.
