Vocations

In Dragon's Dogma, character classes come in the form of vocations, each of which has its own unique playstyle. Note that the weapons characters have access to are dependent on which vocation they are currently using. Players start off with the choice between 3 base vocations, which they can later on change to either more advanced versions or hybrid versions. Each Pawn can take up any vocation, except hybrid ones, allowing flexible party setups. Here are the  9 vocations you can choose from:

• Fighter - A tanky melee user that utilizes counterattacks to overpower their enemies. Wields swords and shields.
• Strider - A dexterous heavy-hitter that can make the most use of the game's unique scaling mechanics. Wields daggers and bows.
• Mage - A defensive magick user specializing in healing and buffing allies. Wields staves.
• Warrior - A bursty DPS unit that runs straight into the heart of the battle. Wields longswords and war hammers.
• Ranger - A long-ranged sniper able to effectively disrupt and pick off enemies. Wields daggers and longbows.
• Sorcerer - The classic glass-canon offensive magick user able to decimate enemies in a wide area. Wields archistaves.
• Mystic Knight - A melee-oriented magick user capable of dealing damage and supporting their allies. Wields swords, maces, staves, and magick shields.
• Assassin - A unit versatile at any range, able to bolster their already powerful attacks into extremely lethal ones. Wields swords. daggers, shields, and bows.
• Magick Archer - A tactical ranged unit able to imbue its projectiles with magical effects. Wields magick bows, daggers, and staves.

Character Customization

Each player will go through the same story, the same tribulations, however, that doesn't mean you all have to look the same. Dragon's Dogma features a comprehensive character customization system. Upon starting the game, players will be able to customize their Arisen's gender, hairstyle, facial features, body type, height, weight, and more, with some choices affecting gameplay including their Arisen's stamina regeneration and how much weight they can carry before getting encumbered. Besides their Arisen, players have the option to customize their main Pawn with the same amount of detail. These character features can later be changed through 'Metamorphosis. Armor choices also affect how characters look, allowing flexibility in character fashion so that players can save the world in style!

Online

Dragon's Dogma doesn't feature traditional multiplayer modes. Instead, online play comes in the form of hiring other players Pawns. By exchanging player IDs, you and your friends can enjoy the story with each other's created characters, even when you're not playing at the same time. Pawns hired by other people keep any knowledge they gain from the quests they finish, activities they go through, and places they visit and can use this knowledge to aid their main Arisen when they go to tackle the same content in the player's session.

Pawn's keep their original skills, stats, inclinations, and commands which cannot be modified by anyone except their main Arisen. Players can opt, however, to change other players' Pawn's equipment, which will be given to the Pawn's original player as a gift after being dismissed. Pawns can be hired and dismissed in the Rift and players are prompted to give gifts to the other player when dismissing their pawn.

10th Anniversary Celebration

Dragon's Dogma is one of the largest hits by Capcom and celebrated its 10th anniversary on May 2022. Along with this celebration, was the announcement of its sequel, Dragon's Dogma II. Many fans rejoiced as the first installment of this series that garnered a lot of praise. A message for every fan was forwarded by Hideaki Itsuno, the director himself.

Dragon's Dogma Overall Reception

On Dragon's Dogma's release, it was well-received by both Western and Eastern audiences. Due to its well-designed combat, unique classes or vocations, intricate pawn system, Breathtaking bosses, and imaginative open world, and sold more than 1 million copies. Its overall gameplay catered to different types of players ranging from casuals to hardcore making a journey worth remembering even in today's standards. Game critiques and reviewers across all platforms had a positive take on Dragon's Dogma with a general review score of 8 out of 10. Ultimately, Famitsu gave one of its highest awards, which was the Hall of Fame: Gold" award.

Ethan

A brave individual who resides in the village of Cassardis. A husband to Olivia, and a guardian to Louis. Mainly hunts to provide for his family and later on plays the role of the Arisen and starts his grand venture. Wields a sword and shield, adept in close-range combat.

"The Dragon beckons me... Mark my words. The Dragon will die by my hand."

Hannah

Played the role of Ethan's main Pawn in the series. A mighty companion, and loyal to the cause of the Arisen even if it cause her life. Wields a bow and arrows, a sword, and can imbue the arisen's weapons with elements. Pawns are drawn to the Arisen, and should not question the Arisen's judgment.

"I am a Pawn, and I shall be your protector."

The Dragon

The main antagonist of the series, that altered Ethan's destiny. Firstly appeared in the village of Cassardis and wreak havoc on the villagers. After the encounter with Ethan, it flew to The Tainted Mountain and asked Ethan to settle the score. It is known as Grigori in the game however, the adaptation did not mention the said information.

"Brave human, heed my words. If thou desires thine heart returned... Come to my lair. I await thine arrival."

Olivia

A loving and faithful wife of Ethan and looks after her family's needs on a daily basis. She also bears Ethan's firstborn.

"Live honorably and just my love. If you do that, even destiny cannot stop you."

Louis

A light-hearted child that loves Ethan and Olivia's company. An orphan that wields a bow and arrows for hunting.

"You know what? I can eat that horse in my own home."
