The pawn stays near the Player in an attempt to guard them.

Not as useful as it sounds. They won't close in on enemies, sometimes they won't fight back even when attacked, instead fighting enemies that attack the player and using support skills. What this does most of the time is leaves you with a completely useless pawn who doesn't do much, and in tougher battles it's an active detriment as enemies targeting the pawn will also hit the player (and vice versa.)

In general, if you want a support pawn use Utilitarian instead.

This inclination is encouraged by the use of the Help command.
